Chat

Our neighborhood WhatsApp chat complements the in-person cleanup: a place for neighbors to ask for help, offer assistance, share neighborhood news, and promote the H Street Corridor.

Guidelines

  1. Be kind.

As in life, so in chat. There are rules of engagement and the main rule in this chat is to BE KIND. Think before pressing SEND. If you wouldn't say something in person to your neighbor during a Sunday gathering, then don't say it in the chat. All members should feel free to inform and comment on topics they think are of interest to the group without fear of threats or personal attack. Civil disagreement is easy. Just disagree civilly.

Our administrators will enforce this guideline (depending on the severity of the comment) with a warning or immediate removal.

  2. Be transparent.

This is not an anonymous group. If we can't sufficiently identify you from your request to join or your WhatsApp name and/or profile info, we won't grant you access to the group. When you join, please let others know who you are by introducing yourself.

  3. Be nearby.

If you'd have to walk more than a few blocks out of your way to pick up a package for a neighbor on the 1200 block of I Street NE, this group probably isn't for you.

While we want to be as inclusive as possible, we need to limit the size in order to keep the group manageable and locally oriented. Exceptions are possible, for example, for individuals who own property or work in the neighborhood. We are learning as we go.
