Cleanup

Every Sunday (with few exceptions) a coalition of the willing picks up trash in the neighborhood and gathers afterwards for coffee and snacks. Join us!

Coffee and snacks after a Sunday cleanup

Details

When

Every Sunday (unless no one is able to host)
Trash pickup: 9:30–10 am
Coffee and snacks: 10–11:30 am

Where

Wherever you want! Socializing generally happens in front of the host's home (sometimes we move indoors to a garage or kitchen).

Where do I clean up?

The trash cleanup portion happens wherever you want! Clean up in front of or behind your home, or pick a spot or a street that you think needs some love. Supplies (trash grabbers, bags, gloves) are usually available for anyone that needs them in front of the host's house.

Where does the trash go?

Put the trash you've collected from the street into a litter can or into your trash can. If you use a litter can and it looks full, make sure to put in a 311 request to have it emptied.

What else should I do during cleanup?

  • If you see something that needs attention from the city, put in a 311 request. The easiest way is to use the DC 311 app so all your information is saved and you can submit pictures easily without having to talk to someone. Alternatively, call 311 or tweet @311DCgov.
  • Rake leaves to clear the sidewalk or unblock a drain.
  • Shovel snow to create a path if needed.
Ways to contact DC 311: the mobile app, phone, and social media

What if I don't want to do any actual manual labor?

Making your partner do the work while you only come for the socialization is one of our oldest traditions.
